Corytoplectus cutucuensis is a Red Listed endangered gesneraid endemic to Eastern Ecuador.   With soft velvety rich green leaves marked with bold white, pink and lighter green patterns with wine red underneath, these plants produce deep red calyces that can last for months.  Pale orange furry bladder shaped flowers open for a few days followed by shiny black edible fruit that look something like blueberries.   This oil painting is adapted from a photograph I took of the plant I obtained my seeds from and later grew in cultivation.   Eventually I'd love to do another painting much larger of this species.
