A joy to work on this painting!  This 10 x 13" pastel is of a green heron taking flight low over still water.  I began with a copper alcohol wash under painting and then layered on metallic and iridescent soft pastels to build up layers, finishing off with pastel pencils for details.  Many thanks to the remarkable photographer, Dan Plale, for allowing me to use his reference image which I then altered to suit.  I'll get a better photo shortly as the glittery pastels make my photo look gritty in some areas.
